I quickly turn back away, blushing if I could, and shrugs slightly. "H-How both our familys were killed, t-that's all!' I rise and turn toward him. 'Lets go ahead and find a camping spot soon. I can sleep anywhere but we should probably find shelter for you.'

"Works for me." I said, not totally convinced. I felt a strange warmness in my chest when I mounted the cat. What is this feeling?

I took off, running as if I were racing the wind itself. Soon we happened acorss a medium sized cave in the side of, what seemed to be a mountain. 'Geez, just where exactly are we? Oh well.' I stopped at the entrance of the cave and morphed into my human form. "Will this work?"

"Good, I suggest you get a good ngiht's sleep. We leave at dawn, and will stop in a town for food tomorrow." I then morph back into my cat form and curl up near the entrance, ready to keep guard all night.

I lie down on the hard rock, and wait for sleep to come. After about 5 minutes, when sleep doesn't come, I go over and cuddle next to Ladis. Seconds later, I'm fast asleep.

I glance at the boy as he suddenly comes over and cuddles up to me. He's asleep almost immediately. I make a sort of chuckleing sound in my throat and go back to watching the night sky, sleep soon overcoming me.

When I wake up, I feel something large and warm up against me. I flip over, and see a big cat. It takes my mind a second to register, and I laugh. This is my first morning of freedom.

I start awake to the sound of laughter. 'What is so funny, brat?' I grumble, clearly not happy to be woken up. Although, when I see it's almost dawn, I decide it was for the best. Rising I morph and stretch slowly, getting all cricks out my neck and back.

"Well, get used to it kid. Ya got alot more where that came from." I chuckle. Then I turn toward the rising sun and just wait, silently.

"So, where are we going today?" I ask, while pulling out my copy of the Song of Autumn.

I look down at the book, the only thing I have left of my mother. I flip open to the first page, written in Old Alfarian, the original Elven language. I felt the smooth parchment, the familiar script. Ladis looks at me curiously.
"Oh, that's right. I forgot to tell you what this is. It is a very old copy of the Song of Autumn, the holy book of the Fellowship of Leaves."

'Boy, that makes as much sense to me as why humans are the dominant species on this planet, despite being weaker.' I roll my eyes slightly and turn to dodge a rock.
