"I only have one thing to take with me. A book my mother gave me, a copy of the Song of Autumn. Do you know what that is?"

"No but we don't have time now. Just get dressed and maybe while we run you can tell me. If you can manage to run and talk at the same time." I sneer, looking down my nose at him. I hate talk about family, too painful no matter how much I try to block it out.

I ignore his sneer, and get my book from under the loose floorboard. I then throw on some clothes.
"Ready?"

"Yeah. Just follow me and try to keep up. I wanna find a good camp site before midnight." I grunt as I morph back into my tiger form, becoming a sleek white tiger. I then take off running beging darting in and out of different streets and alleyways, not even glancing back to see if the kid was keeping up.

He's fast, but I'm just as fast. I run neck and neck with him, keeping up easily. With the book tucked under my arm, I read some passages from it as I run. Most of the passages are praising Sucellus, god of nature, and the spirits of life, but some speak of the prophets. Some even talk about the Great War that split up the Alfar Empire.

As we run, I see the kid reading while running. I roll my eyes and look ahead just in time to see a large fruit cart headed right toward us. I quickly jump to the side and grab the kid by the back of his shirt and pull him out the way too. I stop for a second to make sure he's alright.

"Thanks, I guess that I owe you two now, huh?" I smile a genuine smile for the first time in eight years as the realization hit me. I was finally free.

Unable to talk in this form I simply shrug my shoulders and look down at his knee. It has a small scrap on it that is bleeding a bit. I lean down and lick at it, succeeding in getting the bleeding to stop. I then turn and motion for him to get up and follow.

I follow the big cat out of the city gates, and onto the open plain.

Once on the open plain I set back out at a run, seeing as there aren't any obstacles to really watch out for now. We continue to run well into the night. Not knowing how much stamina the boy has, I contemplate either letting him ride on my back or stopping for the night.

I'm starting to tire, but I refuse to fall behind. Finally, Ladis begins to slow down.

Deciding, finally, that I want to keep moving. I slow and coming to a stop, morph back to my human form. "Look, you need a rest and I want to keep going. So, in order to accomplish both, you will ride on my back for the remainder of the night, and possibly part of the day as well. Got it?" I demand, eager to morph back and run.

"Who am I to argue." He morphs back, and I hop onto his back.

I take off, running even faster than before. I'm not running to get anywhere now, though, I'm running to become apart of the wind. It may sound silly but it why I've always loved running, it makes me feel apart of something.

I laughed gleefuly, feeling the wind in my hair. It felt like I was the wind, and it felt amazing. Like I was a part of something great.
